I think I mentioned that Eugene, like Ann before him, is walking the Camino de Santiago, an ~800 km. (that's about 450 miles) pilgrimmage from the French border to Santiago de Compostela, in the northwest point of Spain. It will take him about 32 days, smelling some roses along the way. Please keep him in your prayers. Frankly, if he comes home injured or sick, I'm afraid that the "man cold" will be a pale comparison of what will be in store for us.
Why is he doing this? Well, you know Eugene, it's a challenge and it's there, right? Also it is 32 days of quasi-solitude, plenty of time to listen to the still, small voice. I'm totally lazy and Ann wrote some more about it on her blog, so take a look-see to understand it better than I have explained.
Eugene has combined the spiritual motives with the challenge of it. This is the man that took me to the San Juan Islands on our bikes for two weeks for our honeymoon! And while there we rode up Mt. Constitution, Eugene making it to the top and then riding back down 1/3 of the way to meet me where I was still pedalling my butt off, and then rode back up again. Show off. He'll probably finish the pilgrimmage in 3 weeks and then walk back part of the way and finish it again just 'cuz.
