Achieving Goals...

...it's a grand thing. One of my goals while here in Spain was to read more. Stop laughing. I am still striving for that goal, no matter how challenging. Today I finished book #2, well, OK, really it was book #1 and a half. I had started a book in March, before we moved here, that I finished in, I don't know, August? And then I started Uncle Tom's Cabin which I just finished today. S-L-O-W progress. I can't imagine why with the Mamas-per-minute (rate at which I hear, "Mama!") at a fluctuating but often high frequency, and domestic duties that seem to reappear immediately upon completing them. But today I hid in my room to grind out the last 40 pages.

Uncle Tom's Cabin is one of the more powerful books I've read. If you've never seen The King and I, which is where I first heard of the book, it is about Tom, a slave in Kentucky in the 1800s, and his fellow slaves, connected throughout the south. Mostly I was intrigued by the perspective of the slaves themselves and it provoked a lot of thought on what slavery and brutality must do to the mindset of a person. Alright, I won't get into a big book review. I know you know that I sometimes get preachy, but I'll leave it at this, I highly recommend it to anyone. This is a book about humanity and therefore in my humble opinion every human should read it, especially since there are such things still happening in the world.
