Thanksgiving went well. Granted, the meal was about 1-1/2 hours late, but tell me a family that actually gets that turkey done on schedule. So we were all ravenous but that was good since our neighbor, Ana Pilar, brought a glorious Ensaladilla Rusa (Russian potato salad) and Sara brough a dee-lish almond-pumpkin puree dessert. Both dishes looked too beautiful to eat, but they tasted as good as they looked, so it was worth breaking the surface. Turkey was a little dry for my taste, but in order to err on the side of caution, I was flying by the seat of my pants without a meat thermometer.
Pumpkin pies turned out well even with a pumpkin that I didn't know anything about that was the base for it. I have obliterated the rest of the turkey into a broth and shredded meat for the turkey-rice soup I always make after T-day.
So that was Saturday. Great company, good wine, extra pie.
