Eva's Daily Report from School

Mama: Eva, qué tal el cole? (how was school?)

Eva: Bien (fine). José threw erasers at me again so I kept them.

Mama (stifling giggle): Oh. Well, if he asks for them back, it’s probably a good idea to give him a second chance and give them back, but you can tell him you’ll keep them forever next time.

Eva: Then, [so-and-so] cut in line and I said “Estoy aquí (I'm here).” And Amparo said, “Muy bien, Eva(very good, Eva - obviously her teacher was impressed with my brilliant daughter's Spanish and lack of fear in addressing the problem).” Then I said “Quieres estar aquí?” (do you want to be here?) and I let him in front of me anyway.
