The Engel half of our little kibbutz here in Valencia has left for a 3 week trip to Cordoba, Prague and Barcelona. We've survived two days without them...man, it's quiet.
So, we're taking advantage of this 'alone' time and doing some family things together. Today we took a trip to Sagunto. A town about 20 miles north of us where there are castle ruins and some interesting things to see. So we took the train, walked through the town, up the hill to the castle and had a look-see. This castle is on a ridge of a large, steep hill and on the outside of its walls it is usually a sharp drop-off into cactii on a long dangerous slope.
Dangerous...enter Eva.
So, the Spanish have this goofy assumption that people will generally be responsible for themselves and have a little common sense to not do things like put one's Winnebago on cruise control and go back and make oneself a sandwich...for example. So there are some safety measures taken at a castle like this, but let's be realistic, they've never met Eva.
Every 1-2 minutes we were pulling Eva back from the edge of a drop-off, ledge, or chasm where she could do some damage. I think she FINALLY started to GET IT when we were leaving and she went to the edge to look over (again), but stopped herself and said, "I don't want to break my leg again!"
